Artist Statement
With my work, I am focusing on developing my personal artistic relationship with function and aesthetics. I create items that can be used and loved. I continue to experiment with form, design, and function, taking mundane subjects and turning them into something a little more whimsical. My work is a combination of ceramics and printmaking, but I also have experience with figural work and illustration. I’m drawn to subjects such as bugs, fauna, and flora due to my experiences growing up closely with nature. I find myself at peace when appreciating small moments through my senses, and I feel like this is communicated through my work. Each item is a handmade token of a moment in time to appreciate.
Creation is also a form of therapy for me, and when I create in the studios it can be a very meditative process. I use my creations as a way to stimulate my ideas and creativity to connect with others. The never-ending vat of knowledge that is life encourages me to continue to push myself to learn and create. I am currently researching sustainable ways to create and produce products and continue to seek the most responsible and feasible way for me to run my business. I have also been exploring the need for community. I believe in the importance of supporting and being supported by those around us in the art community and strive to make a concerted effort.
From the therapeutic forms of art, to sustainable practice, and to the power of community, I have seen how being creative can be so powerful.
